Re: Houston's Tea Party - campaign report

My wife and I were at the Houston Tea Party, handing out contact cards for my gubernatorial campaign.   I was disappointed that the crowd was not more numerous, but I think the start time may have been responsible.

Most of the folks we spoke with were friendly, although a few people indicated they still clung to the hope the Republican Party might abandon its fiscal recklessness.

There was one moment that seemed stolen from a sit-com.    One man rebuked me for campaigning at the Tea Party, saying "This is not a political event.    This is a protest rally".  As if on cue, the woman addressing the crowd at that point boomed out, "RUN FOR OFFICE!".

I spoke with some young volunteers for Debra Medina, and told them I hoped she would win the Republican primary.   I also asked if they thought the Republican establishment would treat her as badly as they had Dr. Paul, as well as some Harris County Republicans who had drawn the ire of the Republican powers for opposing local boondoggles.    They said they would not be surprised were Ms. Medina to be the victim of some mistreatment, even citing one instance.

It was well worth the trip downtown, and I look forward to more such events in the months ahead.
