You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
This event has been organized by the Ron Paul Meetup group. The following information is taken from that group's site:
the only way to get our candidates recognized is to create our own buzz. i reserved the chula vista library. the auditorium seats 152 and has a sound system; on top of that...its free.
UPDATE it was addressed that the 78th is a part of the 51st Congressional District and due to geographical concerns and time constraints, the 39th state senate is off the schedule and have the 78th in.
this is for the candidates of the 51st congressional district and the 78th and 79th assembly district. so far, everyone in the 51st district and 79th has agreed but the incumbents. filner's scheduler is going to confer back with me on this. On the 51st, Ron Paul republican Dan Felzer and Libertarian Dan Litwin will be representing us. David Lee Joy will be the other republican on the debate floor.
the san diego gop and the san diego libertarian party have agreed to be affiliated to this event. i'm waiting word on the democratic party and green party. how this debate/forum is going to unfold is this: there will be a moderator to oversea the flow of the debate/forum and panel members representing from each of the parties. so, there will be one democratic, one republican, and one libertarian (possibly one green) and each will field 10-12 questions divided into 3 topics (foreign, domestic, and economic policy). after the debate, there should be a forum for the audience to ask questions of the candidates if it was not adequately addressed at the debate. all in all, a fair and unbiased deal.
UPDATE since, it was suggested that on the assembly level panel, it might be prudent to have people as panel members who are directly affected on a local level. does anyone know of an association that would be interested, ie teacher's union, police, realtors, asian community, etc?
since the Ron Paul meetup will be the host of the event, i want it to be educational for the audience (and media???). therefore i would like as a filler between the debates.
UPDATE tentative schedule
11:00-11:50 am crisis in the US economy (Jim More/Trace Mayer speakers)
12:00-01:15 pm 79th assembly district (45 min debate/30 min open forum)
01:15-01:30 pm introduction by various political parties (5mins each)
01:30-02:45 pm 78th assembly district (45 min debate/30 min open forum)
02:45-03:00 pm the Constitution and what it means to be a Ron Paul supporter (Craig Combs speaker)
03:00-05:00 pm 51st congressional district (90 min debate/30 min open forum)
just before the auditorium or at the entrance, i would like a booth setup with Ron Paul info. it was suggested that free dvds of "freedom to facism" and the small Constitution books would be a good way to entice the audience. Tim Crum has a burner and Mike Benoit has an uncopy righted copy of the dvd. I think "fiat empire" is free and available on google video to download and burn. each person who walks in should get a survey on "who won the debate" so, there will be a people's poll on the event. these should be collected on the way out. i will check out the auditorium to see if there is room for more booths so the other parties and candidates can have their literature promoted. maybe a donation site???
what i need from people....if someone wants to volunteer to speak as a lecture on a subject matter to inform people....that would be great. anyone who can do a pretty good press release, that would be awesome. once i get the press release and maybe filner's confirmation (or not) i need to go gangbusters and market it to the media. i'll make a pdf file available on this message board if somebody wants to download and print it out to hand it to places. anybody good on sound systems and multi-media? also, worker bees to set up and clean up....
remember, this will be a Ron Paul meetup sponsored event. it if does well, it will set a tone to legitimize our activism, get more members, spread the word, help out our candidates....on top of that, it will be fun.
