March on the White House - End "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" NOW! Host: Servicemembers Legal Defense Network Type: Causes - Protest Network: Global Date: Saturday, June 27, 2009 Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm Location: Farragut Square > The White House > Lafayette Park As of this week, an estimated 265 service members will have lost their jobs under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" since January 20. That's when President Obama and the new Congress came to town, promising change -- change they've failed to deliver, certainly with respect to repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Every day they wait to act, another service member is fired simply because of his or her sexual orientation. This Saturday, June 27, we're marching to the White House to say "Enough. 265 is disgraceful." Join us as we call on President Obama to show leadership on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell": http://www.sldn.org/ 265 Like those who drew a line in the sand 40 years ago at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, we're standing up to demand action. It's past time for these discriminatory discharges to end. After 16 years of this nonsensical law, it's critical that President Obama and Congress act to kill "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Together, marching, we have a real opportunity to deliver a powerful message to the White House, to Congress, and to the American people -- and to let our service members know they have not been forgotten. Please sign up now to join us on Saturday: http://www.sldn.org/ 265 We'll meet in Farragut Square (17th and K St. NW) at 2 p.m. and march from there. We hope to see you on Saturday!

Reason's success at the 51st annual Southern California Journalism awards competition, including two first-place trophies and three honorable mentions. The advent of the Summer Solstice, which we will honor by enjoying beverages outside. Marvin is located at 2007 14th Street NW, one block west of the U Street Cardozo Metro Stop on the Green Line. The Declaration of Independence proclaimed America’s belief in legal equality and inalienable rights. But American governments legally suspended the free will of blacks for 150 years and then denied blacks equal protection under the law for another 150 years. How did this happen in America? How were the Constitution and laws of the land twisted so as to institutionalize racism? How did it—or will it—end? In his new book Judge Andrew P. Napolitano takes a no-holds-barred look at the role of the government in the denial of freedoms on the basis of race. Juan Williams of NPR, author of Eyes on the Prize and of a biography of Thurgood Marshall, calls it “the best history of the law and race I’ve ever read.” Damon Root and Jason Kuznicki, both of whom have written on the history of race and the law, will comment.
