What is libertarianism?

Libertarianism is, simply put, the belief that each individual owns their own body and everything they produce. Libertarians believe therefore that other people, either as individuals or groups, directly, or via representatives, have no right to take one's life, liberty or property without due process of law. If this phrase sounds familiar, it is because our founding fathers enshrined it in our fifth amendment to the Constitution.

Sadly, the fifth amendment and many other parts of the Constitution have been steadily eroded over the years. While no document is perfect, if the Constitution were adhered to, we would have a profoundly more libertarian nation on our hands -- Liberty would be more than just a rote catch phrase people recite when they say the pledge of allegiance.

In 1971, the Libertarian Party was formed. Many people who consider themselves libertarians join the party and many others register Libertarian and vote for their candidates.

This meetup is intended to welcome anyone who is a libertarian (the little "L" indicates one who is philosophically in agreement with libertarian principles while a big "L" would indicate a member of the party), thinks they might be a libertarian, or would like to gain a greater understanding of libertarianism.

Most times, this meetup will be about casual conversation. Other times, we might have a featured speaker. At all times, this meetup will be about encouraging libertarians to get to know each other better and to spread the word that libertarianism is the most ethical of all political idealogies.
