    I'm also actually Jewish by heritage, and I used to be agnostic until few years ago. For me the interpretation of mainstream religions just didn't make much sense. Fortunately, it turns out that the spirituality is nothing of the sort. Things like personal experience through exploration, self knowledge leading to permanent change are most important. Have you heard of the Gnostic Gospels? These are (originally Jewish) texts where Jesus sheds more light on his teachings.
